I got the Bleecker Bag in Merlot leather in the mail last night from the Coach online store, where it is currently $180 marked down from $450. Even though I bought some of the crystal items from Coach last year (I love the Gucci crystal bags for a “I don’t care if it’s tacky, it’s fun” moment but refuse to pay those Gucci crystal bag prices), I’m an old millennial that had a mental block against Coach for a loooong time. However, I had gone into the store a lot in the last year to feel and try on bags, and was really impressed with some of their leather offerings (not all, but some).
This bag is unbelievably soft and slouchy. The stitching is tidy and tight. The hardware is an antique gold. The logo? So small, just the embossed “coach New York” in small gold font towards the top of the bag (I haven’t been able to buy the bags with the giant C logo).
It’s also huge. There are 5 grommets on the wide shoulder strap that are each 3 inches apart, so you can make it into a shoulder bag or crossbody, but I will say that the crossbody function isn’t great if you are average or taller height and plan on packing the bag with a lot of things (because it’s a barrel shape bucket and the strap isn’t too long, it WILL jut out awkwardly if it’s too full and crossbody). It looks best as a shoulder bag.
You can fit a ton in here. I’m a mom with a 6 year old so even though I don’t need to carry as much with me on a typical weekend day out, I still will find great use for this. For moms with younger kids, you can easily pack an extra change of clothes, diapers, formula, snacks, toys, etc in here. For adults, it easily fits an iPad, water bottle, snacks, makeup bag, handheld gaming thing (even my husband’s steam deck, which is too big for most of my bags). I took it to work today (lunch, coffee thermos, makeup bag, wallet, etc)).
Overall, I’m obsessed. There is also a dark olive suede one that I’m now very tempted to get. This is a GREAT bang for your buck bag, especially if you are wanting a kind of Mary Poppins bag right now. Even at $450, I don’t think this is overpriced, but it’s truly a gem at $180. They have some colorful suede ones (like lavender or robins egg blue?) that are even cheaper now—like $120 or something.
Anyway, happy Thursday! I included some mod shots (I’m 5’5”, size 2) and tried to get some decent standalone photos, but it’s honestly so slouchy that it looks not amazing in photos. Definitely has to be worn or touched to really “get it”.
